Article for discussion

Hi,

After giving you the survey on what kind of music you liked at the beginning of the year, I was not surprised that the majority of you favored other music rather than classical.  All over the nation, classical orchestras are losing audience as Mark Wood told you when he was here.  Even the Minnesota Orchestra has been on strike for over a year as the administration of the orchestra has been trying to cut the orchestra's pay 20 percent to reflect the size of their audience.  Mark Wood's answer is to make orchestra music more relevant rather than playing music by old dead guys.  Here is a link to an interesting article from a gentleman who feels differently.  I would love to see your comments on it, thanks.

New Blog, Congrats to MNSOTA Honors Orchestra members!

Hi!

This is the new official blog for orchestra students in TRF.  I hope to keep it updated regularly with useful information for orchestra, and thoughts I would like to share with you that I don't always get to in class.

This first entry is in honor of our new MNSOTA Middle Level Honors Orchestra members!  8th graders Hannah Brickson, Alexis Lane, Brock Drevlow, and 9th grader Brayden Drevlow were named to the orchestra this week, big congratulations!  They will get to perform at the Minneapolis Convention Center in February.  Richard Sather was also named as an alternate.  Only one previous TRF student (Erick Rhen) has ever made it into this orchestra, so congratulations to Brayden and our awesome 8th grade class!
